Subject: Appointment of the Southlake Community Enhancement and Development
Corporation as the Southlake 2035 Economic Development and Tourism Plan
Advisory Board
Purpose: City Council to appoint the Southlake Community Enhancement and
Development Corporation as the advisory board for the Southlake 2035
Economic Development and Tourism Plan
Members: Southlake Community Enhancement and Development Corporation is
comprised of seven (7) City Council appointed Directors which are John Terrell
(President), Martin Schelling (Vice-President), Suzanne Maisto (Secretary), Jeff
Wang, Robert Mundlin and John Thane. One (1) Director appointment is
currently vacant.
Background
Information: Resolution No. 15-044, adopted by City Council on October 20, 2015, created
the City's Type A Economic Development Corporation known as the
Community Enhancement and Development Corporation (CEDC). The
purpose of this corporation is to promote economic development and new and
expanded business enterprises as well as fund the construction and operation
of The Marq Southlake.
As part of the City's 2016 work plan, staff will begin updating the City's
Economic Development and Tourism elements of the Comprehensive Plan to
be known as the Southlake 2035 Economic Development and Tourism Plan.
Given the related economic development purpose of CEDC, it is staff's
recommendation that the CEDC Board serve as the advisory board to the City
Council with regard to the plan update.
Meetings: Meetings would be scheduled to accommodate member's schedules and in
accordance with the by-laws of the Corporation. Typically meetings would be
held between 5 pm and 7pm on a weeknight (Monday-Thursday) and open to
the public. Meeting notification for the public would be provided through various
means including an agenda posting, web site, social media, Development
Activity blog and Connect-CTY.
Final Product/
Outcome: The Community Enhancement and Development Corporation will produce a
report of its recommendations that will be forwarded to the Planning and Zoning
Commission and City Council for consideration.
