Item 4C Final CITY OF
SOUTHLAKE Item 4C
MEMORANDUM
(December 1 , 2015)
To: Shana Yelverton, City Manager
From: Robert H. Price, P.E., Director of Public Works
Greg Hendricks, Director of Information Technology
Subject: Authorize expenditures with Brandt Engineering in the amount
of $90,000
Action
Requested: Authorize expenditures with Brandt Engineering, in an amount not
to exceed $90,000 for the electrical finish out of the DPS North IT
Disaster Recovery Data Center.
Background
Information: Included in the FY16 budget, the City Council approved a Facilities
project to perform an interior finish out of an existing space at the
Southlake Department of Public Safety (DPS) North facility to serve
as an Information Technology (IT) Disaster Recovery (DR) Data
Center. The proposed Disaster Recovery Data Center is located in
the building with the gun range and training facility. Council
authorized funds in the FY16 budget for electrical work that is
needed for this project including the installation of dedicated
electrical panels and a dedicated 60KW emergency backup
generator to serve this room that will house the DR data center.
Currently, the IT Department operates the City's computer servers
on the first floor of Town Hall and in DPS Headquarters. IT has
requested that the Facilities Division initiate the finish out of the
Disaster Recovery Data Center at DPS North in order to house and
operate a redundant computer server room in the event of an
emergency.
Currently, there is an existing 175KW generator for DPS North that
serves as the backup generator for the main building including the
fire station, living quarters, training and meeting rooms, and the gun
range. This generator is adequate for these areas; but, cannot
support the Disaster Recovery Data Center as well.
