3A. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
1. Summer Reading Program Wrap-Up
City Librarian Pfledderer discussed the summer reading program and number of
attendees who participated. She said a survey will be sent out to get feedback
from participants. Approximately $13,000 in donations and grants was raised to
help fund performers, prizes, food for events, etc.
2. New Programs FY 2016
City Librarian Pfledderer discussed roles in the Library and shared some of the
new initiatives. The craft program will be discontinued and there will be more
skill building opportunities. She said STEAM story time will begin in September
for pre-school level and will focus on the basics of science, technology,
engineering, art and math. The City received a grant for $7,100 for Southlake
Special Delivery, a program aimed to bolster story time with new parents and
connect them with the Library as their child grows. A flyer and bookmark with
information about the Library will be provided to Baylor Hospital Labor and
Delivery to give to new mothers as an encouragement to family literacy. Families
will receive a free board book for their baby on their first visit to the Southlake
Library. She said there will be at least one teen program each month and
discussed a few that are coming up. A grant was also received for $7,000 to
offer small business workshops through SCORE Ft. Worth, which is a non-profit
organization of retired executives who offer free mentoring. She said this will be
a kick-starter program and will be free of charge to participants. Evening with the
Author, Charlene Harris, will be next April and will be one of the first events at
The Marg. The adult summer reading program has been reassigned to the
Operations Manager, Jennifer Tucker, and is focused on more adult
engagement.
3B. LIBRARY STATISTICS
City Librarian Pfledderer provided the Library statistics and said June was the
busiest month overall but the program attendance is down since last year. She

City Librarian Pfledderer asked if the Board had any comments/input regarding
the summer reading program, services or programs that are offered. She
encouraged the Board to be aware of the upcoming Library Feasibility Study and
to participate by sharing their views. She said that the Library works with Carroll
Independent School District for summer programs and many other year-round
reading events. She said that we will be looking at expanding tween programs.
Board member Miyazaki wanted to see if more music could be added. Board
Member Roberts said it was too crowded at the summer prize party and some
other summer programs were also filled to capacity. City Librarian Pfledderer
said that approximately 400 people attended the summer prize party and
crowding was exacerbated by a remodeled room and reduced capacity, as well
as, closure of the 4th room for an employee break room. She said that next year
it may be at The Marq. She discussed the automatic renewals, relocating new
books to make it easier to browse in the Library, and possibly having book clubs
in the Library and ways to make it sustainable.
4B. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS RECEPTION
City Librarian Pfledderer said that the reception will be at The Marq this year.
5. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair Flores opened the public forum at 7:15 p.m. and asked for anyone wishing
to speak to come forward. There were no public attendees, so the public forum
