CALL TO ORDER Library Board Chair Flores called the meeting of the Southlake Library Board to order at 6:04 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Southlake Library Board and are enacted with one motion. Chair Flores read the consent agenda item for the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE JUNE 24, 2015 SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING. APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the June 24, 2015 Southlake Library Board meeting. Motion: Burr Second: Miyazaki Ayes: Flores and Roberts Nays: None Abstain: Vote: 4-0 Motion Carried. 3. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT 1. Summer Reading Program Wrap-Up City Librarian Pfledderer discussed the summer reading program and number of attendees who participated. She said a survey will be sent out to get feedback from participants. Approximately $13,000 in donations and grants was raised to help fund performers, prizes, food for events, etc. 2. New Programs FY 2016 City Librarian Pfledderer discussed roles in the Library and shared some of the new initiatives. The craft program will be discontinued and there will be more skill building opportunities. She said STEAM story time will begin in September for pre-school level and will focus on the basics of science, technology, engineering, art and math. The City received a grant for $7,100 for Southlake Special Delivery, a program aimed to bolster story time with new parents and connect them with the Library as their child grows. A flyer and bookmark with information about the Library will be provided to Baylor Hospital Labor and Delivery to give to new mothers as an encouragement to family literacy. Families will receive a free board book for their baby on their first visit to the Southlake Library. She said there will be at least one teen program each month and discussed a few that are coming up. A grant was also received for $7,000 to offer small business workshops through SCORE Ft. Worth, which is a non-profit organization of retired executives who offer free mentoring. She said this will be a kick-starter program and will be free of charge to participants. Evening with the Author, Charlene Harris, will be next April and will be one of the first events at The Marg. The adult summer reading program has been reassigned to the Operations Manager, Jennifer Tucker, and is focused on more adult engagement. 3B. LIBRARY STATISTICS City Librarian Pfledderer provided the Library statistics and said June was the busiest month overall but the program attendance is down since last year. She asked if there was something that the Board would like to see in the statistics. Next meeting she will bring in an Annual report of the print circulation by collection for this year versus last year. 4. DISCUSSION 4A. BOARD RECOMMENDATIONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN LIBRARY SERVICES City of Southlake Values: Integrity♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Minutes of the August 26, 2015 Southlake Library Board Meeting Page 3 of 3 City Librarian Pfledderer asked if the Board had any comments/input regarding the summer reading program, services or programs that are offered. She encouraged the Board to be aware of the upcoming Library Feasibility Study and to participate by sharing their views. She said that the Library works with Carroll Independent School District for summer programs and many other year-round reading events. She said that we will be looking at expanding tween programs. Board member Miyazaki wanted to see if more music could be added. Board Member Roberts said it was too crowded at the summer prize party and some other summer programs were also filled to capacity. City Librarian Pfledderer said that approximately 400 people attended the summer prize party and crowding was exacerbated by a remodeled room and reduced capacity, as well as, closure of the 4th room for an employee break room. She said that next year it may be at The Marq. She discussed the automatic renewals, relocating new books to make it easier to browse in the Library, and possibly having book clubs in the Library and ways to make it sustainable. 4B. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS RECEPTION City Librarian Pfledderer said that the reception will be at The Marq this year. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Chair Flores opened the public forum at 7:15 p.m. and asked for anyone wishing to speak to come forward. There were no public attendees, so the public forum was closed. 6.
