I am presenting Item 4C – a permit request for an art exhibit hosted by Southlake Sister Cities, which requires a recommendation from the Southlake Arts Council and final approval of the City Council. 1 WHAT: Permit for Sister Cities International Young Artists & Authors Exhibit WHEN: January 4 – February 12, 2016 WHERE: Town Hall Lobby SPONSORS: Southlake Sister Cities Southlake Arts Council Southlake Public Library Requested Action The permit is requesting approval to display the Sister Cities International Young Artists and Authors Showcase exhibit, January 4, 2016 through February 12, 2016, in the Southlake Town Hall lobby. The event is sponsored by the Southlake Sister Cities, Southlake Arts Council and Southlake Public Library. This year will be the 4th time the Sister Cities International exhibition has been displayed in the town hall lobby. 2 City of Southlake Strategy Map Critical Business Outcomes CBO1 - Continue to implement Southlake 2030 Plan by focusing on short-term initiatives. The permit also addresses the corporate objectives of providing opportunities for partnerships and volunteer involvement and enhancing the sense of community by providing excellent customer service and citizen engagement opportunities. 3 Sister Cities International Young Artists & Authors Exhibit Plan 10 art pieces hung in panel areas will require less than 30% of lobby wall space 4 poem displays placed in four corners of lobby Art placement based on size and aesthetic concerns related to color and composition The exhibition of 10 award-winning and finalist art pieces will require less than 30% of the lobby wall space and will be hung in wall panels using gallery suspension system used for previous exhibits. Four(4) poem displays on easels to be placed in corners of lobby. 4 Financial Considerations The exhibit will be managed and maintained by City of Southlake staff and requires no additional funding by the City. 5 Benefits to citizens Award-winning and finalist artwork from Sister Cities International Young Artists & Authors Showcase from around the world The art exhibit is open to the public and provides Southlake citizens and visitors an opportunity to see the award-winning and finalist artwork from the Sister Cities International Young Artists & Authors Showcase that will be on display across the United States! 6 Board/Council Review Permit complies with the Public Art Display and Performance Policy Southlake Arts Council recommended approval (5-0) of the permit August 4, 2015 City Council consideration September 15, 2015 The proposed permits comply with the Public Art Display and Performance Policy. The Southlake Arts Council and City Council have approved nineteen (19) similar art receptions and exhibits since 2011. The Southlake Arts Council recommended approval 5-0 of the permit at their meeting held August 4, 2015 Tonight we are seeking City Council consideration of the permit. 7 Questions?
