Good evening Mayor and members of the City Council, this is item 9A which is the selection of public art for the roundabout at Dove Road and Peytonville Ave/Sam School Road

City Council selection of public art for the roundabout at Dove Road and Peytonville Avenue/Sam School Road
Requested Action
Construction on the roundabout at the intersection of Dove Road and Peytonville Avenue/Sam School Road is scheduled to be complete in Spring 2016.
With this item, we are seeking City
Council selection of public art to be installed in the roundabout.

Background
Public art was previously installed in the four (4) roundabouts within the City
White Chapel Blvd. & Continental Blvd.
White Chapel Blvd. & Dove Rd.
Carroll Ave. & Dove Rd.
Brumlow Ave.
& Continental Blvd.
As recommended in the Public Art Master Plan, public art was installed in the roundabouts at White Chapel & Continental, White Chapel & Dove, Carroll & Dove and Brumlow & Continental.

Background
Call to Artists released in March
Twenty responses received
Arts Council reviewed submittals on April 28, 2015 & selected three finalists
A Call to Artists was released in March 2015 to local, regional and national artists requesting proposals for public art to be placed in the City’s fifth roundabout. The City received
20 responses from the call. The submittals were reviewed at the April 28, 2015 Southlake Arts Council meeting, where the Council selected Dream Big Sculpture, Kathleen Caricof, and Seth
Vandable as finalists for the roundabout. Artists were asked to submit a final concept for the roundabout project for review at the May Arts Council meeting. Final concepts are shown
on the following slides.

Southlake Arts Council Recommendation
After review of the three final concepts, the Southlake Arts Council unanimously selected Dream Big Sculpture’s “Flying Together” concept as their recommended art piece for the roundabout.
In addition, the Arts Council recommended that Kathleen Caricof’s piece “Texas Sky - Constellation” be considered as a finalist for The Marq Southlake project.

Financial Considerations
Funding in the amount of $90,000 included in project budget
Funding in the amount of $90,000 has been included in the project budget for the design and installation of public art in the roundabout as recommended in the 2030 Public Art Master
Plan and Public Art Policy.

Per the adopted Public Art Display and/or Performance Policy, the Southlake Arts Council shall make recommendations on placement, artwork and artists to the City Council who will make
any and all final determinations on the said placement and the artwork/artists.
Southlake Arts Council reviewed responses and selected finalists April 28, 2015.

approved (7-0) May 26, 2015 to recommend the concept “Flying Together” by Dream Big Sculpture.
