0249 VOLUME PAGE ORDINANCE NO. 249 AN ORDINANCE CONTINUING THE IMPOSITION OF THE 1% CITY TAX SALES ON RESIDENTIAL USE OF GAS AND ELECTRICITY AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Texas in special session passed H.B.1, Acts 1978, 65th Legislature, 2nd Call Session, requiring any city desiring to retain the 1% city sales tax on residential use of gas and electricity to pass such an ordinance by May 1, 1979; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Southlake deems it necessary to the financial integrity of the city to retain this tax; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS: SECTION 1. The taxes authorized by the Local Sales and Use Tax Act, Art. 1066c, V.C.T.S., on the receipts from the sale, production, distribution, lease or rental of, and the use, storage, or other consumption of gas and electricity for residential use as authorized by Section 4A, Article 1066c, V.C.T.S. be and the same are hereby continued. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
