AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 118 (TRAFFIC CODE) by
ADDING THERETO SECTION 25.A, PROVIDING REGULATIONS IN
OPERATING SCHOOL BUSES UPON THE HIGHWAYS, ROADS, STREETS
AND PUBLIC THOROUGHFARES IN THE TOWN OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS,
PROVIDING FOR MARKING OF SCHOOL BUSES, AND OVERTAKING AND
PASSING THEREOF, BY OTHER MOTOR VEHICLES TRAVERSING SUCH
HIGHWAYS, ROADS, STREETS AND PUBLIC THOROUGHFARES; FJRTHER
PROVIDING THAT ANY PERSON VIOLATING ANY OF THE PROVISIONS
OF THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE DEEMED GUILTY OF A MISDEMEANOR,
AND UPON CONVICTION THEREOF SHALL BE FINED NOT LESS THAN
$ 10.00 NOR MORE THAN $ 200.00 AND FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL. OF THE TOWN OF
SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS:
THAT Ordinance No. 118 be amended by adding thereto
Section 25-A which reads as follows:
1.
OVERTAKING AND PASSING SCHOOL BUS: The driver of a
vehicle upon any highway, road, street or public thoroughfare
within the limits of the Town of Southlake, Texas, upon meeting
or overtaking from either direction any school bus which has
stopped on the highway for the Purpose of receiving or dis-
charging any school children shall stop the vehicle immediately
before passing the school bus, but may then proceed past such
school bus at a speed which is prudent, not exceeding ten (10)
miles per hour, and with due caution for the safety of such
children.
2.
THAT every bus used for the transportation of school children
shall bear upon the front and rear thereon a plainly visible sign
containing the words "school bus" in letters not less than eight
(8) inches in height. When a school bus is being operated upon
a highway for purposes other than the actual transportation of
children either to or from school, all markings thereon indicating
"school bus" shall be covered or concealed.
