A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS ESTABLISHING AN ABSENCE POLICY FOR
MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE PLANNING AND
ZONING COMMISSION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Southlake is a home rule city acting under its Charter
adopted by the electorate pursuant to Article XI, Section 5 of the Texas Constitution and
Chapter 9 of the Local Government Code; and
WHEREAS, Sections 2.08(b)(4) and 11.03 of the Southlake City Charter provide
that members of the City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission forfeit their
office for failure to attend two consecutive meetings without being excused by the City
Council of the City of Southlake; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish a policy for absences for the
City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
There is hereby established an absence policy for City Council members and for
Planning and Zoning Commission members of the City:
1. Members of the City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission of
the City shall forfeit their office for failure to attend two consecutive regular meetings
without being excused by the Council.
2. A Council member or Planning and Zoning Commission member shall
notify the City Secretary prior to missing a meeting and provide a reason for the
absence. If an unforeseen event prevents a member from attending a meeting, he or
she shall provide the City Secretary with the reason for the absence as soon as
practicable after the meeting.
3. The City Council shall routinely include an item on the City Council
agenda to consider whether to excuse Council members and Planning and Zoning
Commission members for failure to attend meetings.

SECTION 2.
This resolution shall be effective immediately upon its adoption by the City
Council.
