1993-025City of Southlake, Texas RESOLUTION NO. 93-25 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 93-13 CALLING THE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON MAY 1, 1993, BY AMENDING SECTION 14, "EARLY VOTING" BY EXTENDING THE HOURS OF EARLY VOTING; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY SECRETARY TO MAKE SUBMISSIONS TO THE UNITED STATES JUSTICE DEPARTMENT FOR PRE -CLEARANCE APPROVAL; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 93-13, adopted by the Southlake City Council on February 2, 1993, called for a General Election to be held on May 1, 1993; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Southlake now desires to extend the hours for voting during the early voting period; and, WHEREAS, this change from prior practices may require pre- clearance under the Federal Voting Rights Act; now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, THAT: 1. Section 14 of Resolution No. 93-13, is hereby amended as follows: SECTION 14. Earlv Votina. Early voting by personal appearance shall be conducted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on each day which is not a Saturday, Sunday or an official State holiday, beginning on April 12, and continuing through April 27, 1993. Additional voting hours shall be as follows: Day 7 April 24, 1993 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday Day 6 April 25, 1993 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday Day 5 April 26, 1993 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday Day 4 April 27, 1993 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday Early Voting by personal appearance shall be at the Office of the City Secretary, 667 North Carroll Avenue, Southlake, Texas. Applications for early voting by mail shall be delivered to the City Secretary at the same address not earlier than March 2, 1993, and not later than the close of business on April 23, 1993. Early Voting, both by personal appearance and by mail, shall be by paper ballots and shall be canvassed by the Absentee Ballot Board, which is hereby created. The Presiding Election Judge and the Alternate Presiding Election Judge appointed herein shall serve as the presiding officer and the alternate presiding officer, respectively, of the Early Voting Board. The other election officers serving at the election shall serve as the other members of the Early Voting Ballot Board for the election. Resolution No. 93-25 page two 2. SECTION 15,Submissions to the United States Justice Department. The City Secretary of the City of Southlake is directed to make such submissions as are necessary to the U.S. Justice Department to seek pre -clearance approval for the additional length of the Early Voting to include the amendment in Section 14.
