RESOLUTION NO.93-22
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE FUNDING OF POISON
CONTROL SERVICES FOR TARRANT COUNTY RESIDENTS
THROUGH THE COUNTY 9-1-1 EMERGENCY
COMMUNICATION DISTRICT; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, it is the purpose of local governments to
provide for the health, safety and welfare of their residents; and,
WHEREAS, the provision of emergency medical service is
among the most important duties of local government, and the
availability of 9-1-1 emergency telephone service is an essential
component of Tarrant County's network of emergency medical
services; and,
WHEREAS, poison control is among the emergency medical
services that can most effectively and efficiently be provided on
a regional basis; and,
WHEREAS, the North Texas Poison Control Center
provides comprehensive and coordinated poison control services to
be residents of the state's most populous region; and,
WHEREAS, due to the emergency nature of poison control
services, it is appropriate that Tarrant County's portion of the
Center's budget be funded through an existing emergency district
such as the Tarrant County 9-1-1 Emergency Communication District;
and,
WHEREAS, it is recommended that a fee, sufficient to
cover Tarrant County's share of the North Texas Poison Control
Center's annual budget, be imposed on each telephone customer in
Tarrant County, in order that all citizens in all cities of the
County be provided with emergency poison control services; and,
WHEREAS, in order to ensure the continuation of a
comprehensive and coordinated poison control service for the
residents of Tarrant County, it is essential that legislation be
enacted that will explicitly permit the 9-1-1 Emergency District
to levy a fee for poison control services; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the City Council of the -
City of Southlake, Texas, do hereby support the imposition of a
monthly fee to be used to help fund Tarrant County's portion of
the operating costs for the North Texas Poison Control Center; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that I, Mayor Gary Fickes of Southlake,
Tarrant County, do hereby request that we hereby request that the
Board of Directors of the Tarrant County 9-1-1 Emergency
Communication District seek legislative authority from the 73rd
Legislature to permit the district to levy such a fee.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayors' Council of
Tarrant County, representing all cities in the County, do hereby
support the imposition of a monthly fee to be used to help fund
Tarrant County's portion of the operating costs for the North Texas
Poison Control Center; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we, the Mayors' Council of Tarrant
County, do hereby request that the Board of Directors of the
Tarrant County 9-1-1 Emergency Communication District seek
legislative authority from the 73rd Legislature 'to permit the
district to levy such a fee.
